Join us on this adventure as we head north to Charleston SC area to photograph two
iconic destinations. We’ll leave around 6:45 AM to get to Angel Oak Park to be the first
in the park when the gates open. This will give us our best opportunity to photograph
the Angel Oak Tree before the crowds arrive.
The Angel Oak Park is located on Johns Island. The Angel Oak Tree is a Southern Live
Oak tree, is a historical site and focal point of one of the City of Charleston’s public
parks. It is considered to be the largest Live Oak Tree east of the Mississippi estimating
to be 300 to 400 years old. The Angel Oak receives approximately 400,000 visitors each
year. The tree is 65 feet high with a circumference of 25.5 feet, shading an area of
17,000 square feet.
Then we’ll travel to the Magnolia Plantation, and it should be spectacular this time of
year with the gardens in full bloom. There are several levels of admission fee for seniors
starting at $29.00 per person.
We are scouting out a good restaurant for lunch.

We are returning to one of our favorite spring destinations located in Sumter, South
Carolina, Swan Lake & Iris Gardens. Swan Lake is the only public park in the United
States to feature all eight swan species. There is a paved walkway around the entire lake
that provides the photographer with a variety of views of the Swans, many species of
ducks and other water waterfowl in Swan Lake. Many of the swans are close to the
shore and easy to photograph. The Iris Gardens has some of the most intensive plantings
of Japanese Iris’s in the United States. Swan Lake is in Sumter, SC. It is a 2-hour 15-
minute, 156-mile drive from Sun City. Plan on 3-hours at Swan Lake & Iris Gardens. A
group lunch is planned after visiting Swan Lake and Iris Gardens.
